The University of Bridgeport named Neil Slater as honoree of their 2016 Jazz Reunion in conjunction with the UB Homecoming events on October 16, 2015. As part of the tribute, a brunch was held in the tower room of the Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center where testimonials were given from alum and former colleagues. A plaque was presented by UB President Neil Salonen with the dedication, “In honor of Professor Neil Slater for innovation in collegiate music education. Founder of UB’s Jazz Studies program in 1971, among the first in the nation.” Bridgeport Mayor Joseph P. Ganim, issued an official Proclamation declaring October 16th, 2016 as Neil Slater Day in the City of Bridgeport, CT. Following the brunch, a UB Jazz Alumni band performed a concert conducted by Mr. Mark Vickers. A warm and special thanks to Mark Vickers (class of ’79 and UB Instructor) and Frank Martignetti, Interim Director of Music and Performing Arts, for their enormous contribution in the event’s organization and production.
