ArtsWalkDedicationProclamation_PhotoByJillHaerle2017Neil Slater was honored at the unveiling of his “Denton Arts Walk of Fame” sidewalk stone on Saturday, May 20th.  The engraved granite paver stone is located in front of the Mellow Mushroom restaurant on Hickory at Industrial.  Following a sidewalk dedication where Councilwoman Keely Briggs read the City of Denton’s mayoral proclamation, a reception was held at the Harvest House, where the One O’Clock Lab Band, directed by Alan Baylock, played a short program of Slater compositions to family and friends.  Speakers Craig Marshall (UNT Lab Band Manager), Dr. John Murphy (Chair, UNT Division of Jazz Studies), Phil Bulla (A1 Platinum Productions-NY, and One O’Clock audio recording engineer), Alan Baylock (Director, UNT One O’Clock Lab Band) and Dean John Richmond (UNT College of Music), each gave recognition and tribute to Slater and his career.  “Neil Slater Day” was declared by mayoral proclamation as May 20th, 2017.
